DAVAO CITY -- The City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) eyes more infrastructure to improve road safety and comfort among the city's bikers.
CTTMO chief Dionisio Abude said Wednesday more bicycle lanes will be considered in the design of future roads.
"Solar stands and bollards will be provided," Abude added.
These, he said, are included in the Amended Bicycle and Light Mobility Vehicle Ordinance of Davao City, which aims to improve the safety of bikers and other road users.
Last year, the city government and the Department of Transportation opened the newly-completed 54.74- kilometer Metro Davao Bike Lane Network stretching across 14 road sections here.
To promote active transport as a sustainable and efficient mode of transportation, the city government earlier suspended two ordinances mandating the registration of recreational and transportation bicycles.
Officials said this would allow Dabawenyos to use the bike lanes without fear of penalty for non-registration, until the two ordinances have been harmonized.
Last year, the 2021 Mobility Awards feted the city with a Silver plaque for its efforts to establish bike lanes and become a bike-friendly city. (PNA)
