CEBU CITY – Vice presidential aspirant Walden Bello should stop attacking Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte and cease making the vice presidential front-runner a “smokescreen” for his failure to prove his claims, a local official said on Thursday.

“Now that Mr. Bello is being held to account before our justice system, he should be man enough to face the consequences of his own actions rather than hide behind his penchant for attacking Mayor Sara Duterte as a smokescreen for his inability to substantiate his wild claims with actual facts and evidence,” Duterte’s spokesperson, Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Frasco-Garcia said in a statement.

Garcia made the statement after Bello filed his counter-affidavit to the cyber libel charges filed against him by the former Davao City information officer.

In March, Jeffrey Tupas, the city’s information officer filed the cyber libel complaint against Bello for allegedly uttering false statements that the former was “nabbed at a beach party” and alleged “snorting PHP1.5-million worth of drugs”.

“The cyber libel complaint filed against Walden Bello, his persona non-grata status, and his deliberate failure to disclose information and cooperate with law enforcement on alleged illegal drug activities, are but the result of his own actions and utterances,” Garcia said.

She described Bello’s action of entering the Davao City Council Session Hall as a “stunt.”

She said mocking the revered halls of the City Council “only serves to further insult the peace-loving people of Davao and reveal the true nature of his character”. (PNA)
