World’s oldest person dies aged 119 in Japan

TOKYO – Kane Tanaka, a Japanese woman considered the world's oldest person, has died at the age of 119, local broadcaster NHK reported on Thursday.

Tanaka was born on Jan. 2, 1903 and worked in her family’s grocery store until she was 103 years old. Her husband and eldest son were killed during World War II.

She had lived in a nursing home in Fukuoka prefecture since 2005.

In 2019, Tanaka was recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest living person. (TASS)
