MANILA – The Board of Investments (BOI), Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), Energy Utilization Management Bureau (EUMB), and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have partnered to create guidelines that would make the local cold chain industry sustainable and energy-efficient.
The guidelines on Minimum Energy Performance (MEP) aim to promote energy savings at the industry level while developing the cold chain industry in the country.
In a statement Friday, BOI Governor Marjorie Ramos-Samaniego said the MEP will help the cold chain industry lessen its environmental footprint.
Being a power-intensive industry, the BOI official said the MEP will encourage cold chain facilities to adopt energy-efficient operations.
Ramos-Samaniego, who is also the co-chair of the National Cold Chain Committee (NC3), said the MEP should also complement the Philippine Cold Chain Industry Roadmap, which eyes to have an integrated, inclusive, and market-oriented sector.
“The BOI and the NC3 are one hundred percent committed to co-implement this memorandum of understanding and make this project a success towards an energy-efficient and sustainable Philippine cold chain industry,” she added.
The MEP is also in line with the Republic Act 11285 or the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Law, which makes energy efficiency and conservation a legal obligation and ensures sustainable economic growth for the country. (PNA)
