DAVAO CITY – The city government has received a PHP5 million donation for the education sector from Cosmic Technologies Inc., the developer behind Cherry Mobile Philippines.
Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) Supervising Commissioner for Mindanao Norman Baloro said in an interview Monday the company gained interest to support Dabawenyo children through Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio's "Student Siblings' Tablet Sharing" project.
"Through the constant coordination of the Student Siblings Tablet Sharing Project, the city was able to gain more partners that help the government provide the needs of children, especially during this pandemic where the set-up for learning has been challenged," Baloro said.
In particular, the donation benefited those who belong to less fortunate families and pupils who have not enrolled in other scholarship programs and assistance from the government.
Baloro said Cosmic Technologies Inc., provided 500 units of Cherry Mobile computer tablets costing PHP10,000 each.
The donation went to 100 indigent students from the Davao City National High School, another 50 units for students of Talomo Central Elementary School, while 350 units were given to other qualified students who applied for the program.
Baloro added that they are also preparing for another round of distribution activities for other qualified students.
"One of our partners that expressed willingness to provide donations for students is the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Davao," he said, adding that the donor has prepared some 2,000 backpacks up for distribution soon.
"We are truly grateful for the partners we have found in the private sector. Their generosity is felt by the beneficiaries who are the hard-working and deserving students in Davao City,” Baloro said. (PNA)
