ZAMBOANGA CITY – The City Treasurer’s Office here, under the supervision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), on Saturday began the distribution of election paraphernalia for Monday’s national and local polls.
Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, 1st District election officer, said remote barangays (villages) would be prioritized.
“To ensure they get the exact number of ballots, these are inspected by the members of the electoral board with the presence of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting representative,” Cañete said in an interview at the Mayor Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex.
The official ballots, packed in 638 sealed boxes, arrived last week from the Comelec central office in Manila – 299 for the 1st District and 339 for the 2nd District.
The final testing and sealing of vote-counting machines were finished on May 3.
This city has 120 polling centers with 638 voting precincts.
The 1st District covers 37 of the city’s 98 villages and has 193,912 registered voters while the 2nd District has the remaining 61 and 209,552 registered voters. (PNA)
