DAGUPAN CITY – The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) has responded to several alleged vote-buying incidents in the different parts of the province reported on social media.

“We verified the reports and interviewed witnesses as well as the persons being complained and so far, the results were negative,” PPPO information officer Maj. Katelyn May Awingan said in an interview on Monday.

She said they have to receive formal complaints to pursue the alleged vote-buying reported on social media.

Meanwhile, Awingan said a formal complaint was submitted before the fiscal on Monday following an alleged vote-buying incident in Dagupan City.

The complainant reportedly witnessed the act and filed a formal complaint against a male resident from the city, she said.

Pieces of evidence were surrendered to the police while the suspect’s name was withheld as there was no decision yet from the prosecutor about the submitted complaint, Awingan said.

“This is the first formal complaint in the entire province,” she added.

Awingan encouraged the public to report and file formal complaints if there are vote-buying incidents in their localities.

“The election is not yet over and we are here to respond and act on any kind of untoward incidents,” she said. (PNA)
