MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) deployed K9 units and uniformed personnel nationwide as part of its intensified security operations during the May 9 national elections.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the PCG said over 400 explosives and narcotics detection dogs and their handlers were deployed nationwide to inspect polling places, vote counting centers, and city halls.

“Hanggang sa mga oras na ito ay wala pang naitatalang ‘unusual incident’ ang ating mga operatiba, ngunit lubos po ang aming panalangin na matapos ang araw na ito nang mapayapa at ligtas para sa lahat ng ating mga kababayan (To date, there have been no recorded ‘unusual incident’ by our operatives and we pray that the day ends peacefully and safely for all our us),” the PCG said.

As part of “OPLAN Biyaheng Ayos: National and Local Elections 2022”, the PCG also monitored outbound and inbound passengers in all ports nationwide.

In its 3 p.m. update, it reported a total of 20,062 outbound passengers and 16,304 inbound passengers in all ports.

It said 2,237 frontline personnel deployed from 15 PCG districts inspected a total of 170 vessels and 273 motorbancas.

“The PCG has placed its districts, stations, and sub-stations on 'heightened alert' to manage the influx of port passengers to ensure the secure, accurate, free, and fair conduct of elections,” the PCG said. (PNA)
