Honey Lacuna takes helm as first female mayor of Manila

MANILA – Incumbent Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna made history after she was proclaimed the first woman mayor of the country's capital on Wednesday evening.

In a statement issued to the media on Thursday, Lacuna expressed her gratitude to Manileños for the overwhelming support and honor given her.

“Buong kababaang loob po akong nagpapasalamat sa tiwala, suporta at pagmamahal ng mga kapwa ko Batang Maynila sa bagong mandato na ibinigay ninyo sa inyong lingkod at sa karangalan na maging kauna-unahang babaeng alkalde ng minamahal nating lungsod (I am humbled by the trust, support and love from my fellow Manileños for this new mandate that you have given me and for the honor of becoming the first woman to become the mayor of our beloved city),” she said.

Lacuna who ran under the Asenso Manilenyo Movement got a total of 538,595 votes, followed by Alex Lopez of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) with 166,908 votes.

Meanwhile, her running mate Yul Servo Nieto also won the race for the position of vice mayor with a total of 586,855 votes followed by Raymond Bagatsing of the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) with 185,431 votes.

Lacuna called on all those who participated in the recent election to work with them for the benefit of all Manila residents.

“Sa lahat po ng mga lumahok sa halalang ito, inaabot ko ang kamay ng pagkakaisa at pagtutulungan upang gawing ganap na maayos, epektibo, maunlad at matiwasay ang buhay ng bawat pamilyang Manilenyo (To all those who participated in this election, I am offering my hand for unity and cooperation to make the lives of every Manileño family orderly, effective, prosperous and peaceful),” she said.
