Army lauds medal haul of rowers in SEA Games

MANILA – The Philippine Army (PA) on Monday lauded its rowers who have won two more medals in the rowing competition in the ongoing 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Pvt. Chris Nievarez clinched the bronze medal in the men’s lightweight single scull event while PFC Amelyn Pagulayan also won the bronze medal in the women’s quadruple sculls event last May 14.

Nievarez earlier bagged the silver medal in the men’s lightweight double sculls event last May 11.

"Your outstanding tenacity and determination have brought glory not just to the Philippine Army but to our country as well. Kudos! You deserve the success you have worked so hard to achieve," PA Special Service Center Director Col. John Oliver Gabun said.

A total of 21 Army athletes are part of the Team Philippines that is competing in the games.

They are participating in sporting events which include athletics, badminton, basketball, kurash, rowing, sepak takraw, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, and chess. (PNA)
