SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Some 764,477 residents of the Ilocos Region have received their booster shots against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as of May 14.

In data issued by the Department of Health Center for Health Development in the Ilocos Region (DOH-CHD-1), there were 3.6 million residents in the region who were fully vaccinated, or 84 percent of the total target population.

The Covid-19 cases in the region are still at a downward trend with three daily average cases or 5 percent lower than the cases recorded in the first week of May.

There are three admissions in hospitals with severe and critical cases.

Data also showed that the non-intensive care unit (ICU) bed utilization rate in the province was at 11 percent, or 175 out of 1,547 non-ICU beds were being used as of May 14.

ICU bed utilization was at 19 percent, or 44 out of 237 were being used.

DOH-CHD-1 Covid-19 focal person Dr. Rheuel Bobis earlier attributed the decline to the high immunization coverage.

“We are encouraging those who have been fully vaccinated to get their booster shots to enhance their protection against Covid-19,” he added. (PNA)
