MANILA – The Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) has restored power supply in several more villages inside Marawi City’s most affected area (MAA).
TFBM chief and Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Eduardo del Rosario said the restoration of power supply to 24 villages hit hard by the 2017 Marawi siege is an “indication of sustained progress” of the massive government-led rehabilitation.
“The electrification of the additional barangays right in the center of MAA signifies the success of the government-led rehabilitation. This is also solid proof of the government’s commitment to providing assistance to those adversely impacted by the 2017 siege, especially our Maranao brothers and sisters, and help them rebuild their lives,” del Rosario said in a statement on Friday.
During his visit to Marawi City early this week, del Rosario joined the Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative Inc. (Lasureco) and the local government unit in a ceremonial restoration of electrical power supply.
Residents of five villages inside the MAA Sector 9 -- Moncado Kadingilan, Norhaya Village, Sangcay Dansalan, Moncado Colony, and Datu Naga -- can now apply for electrification.
The TFBM divided the 24 villages into nine sectors during the debris management phase to make sure that the entire MAA will be totally free of unexploded bombs.
In a text message to the Philippine News Agency, TFBM field office manager and DHSUD Assistant Secretary Felix Castro Jr. said the MAA residents who wish to rebuild their houses can now apply for the electrical connection through the Lasureco.
Castro said the installation and meter fees will be paid for by the applicants.
The city is holding a Marawi Week of Peace in observance of the fifth-year commemoration of the siege.
The TFBM will also turn over another batch of permanent shelters in the coming months. (PNA)
