MANILA – Grab Philippines has launched a safety ambassador boot camp for at least 150 of its drivers and delivery partners as part of this year’s observance of road safety month dubbed “Drive Safe: Kalsadang Ligtas, Happy Ang Lahat.”

Wayne Jacinto, head of the Grab Philippines driver operations, said the road safety education program could be beneficial to lessen the road-related accidents.

“Being on the road is central to Grab’s day-to-day operations, and we are optimistic that through various road safety education programs, we are empowering our drivers and delivery-partners to be road safety stewards within their communities while continuing to strengthen our ongoing advocacy for a safer and more efficient use of our thoroughfares,” Jacinto said in a news release on Wednesday.

Road safety experts along with government transport agencies including Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Highway Patrol Group (HPG), and the Land Transportation Office (LTO), will provide webinar training and educational programs to select drivers and delivery partners.

Citing a 2020 report from the Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System (MMARAS), the Grab Philippines said the majority of the 65,032 traffic-related incidents recorded in Metro Manila were accounted for cars and motorcycles.

Thus, experts will share important pointers on road safety and defensive driving to equip drivers with the necessary knowledge and prevent and avoid road accidents during the boot camp.

It also aims drivers to revisit essential traffic and transportation rules and regulations to instil discipline among drivers and delivery partners.

They will also undergo session on proper behavior and attitude on the road. (PNA)
