MANILA – The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) said Thursday it would pursue its investigation on another rape-slay case of a minor in Santiago City, Isabela.

In a statement, CHR Executive Director Lawyer Jacqueline Ann de Guia condemned the alleged rape-slay of a 10-year-old girl whose body was found in Mabiret River, Purok 4, Balluarte, Santiago City on Wednesday.

“It is concerning that barely a week has passed since CHR has taken cognizance and investigated a similar incident in Batangas,” she said. “We strongly condemn this heinous crime and all other acts of violence towards children”.

On May 17, the CHR said it would investigate the rape-slay of a five-year-old girl in Barangay Wawa, Batangas City last May 14.

While De Guia acknowledged the quick action of the Batangas City Police in apprehending the suspect of the heinous crime, she emphasized that crimes perpetrated against the young and defenseless are the government’s failure to protect the most vulnerable members of society.

“We urge local law enforcers and barangay community leaders, who are duty-bound to protect the rights of children, to take more proactive measure to prevent continuing crimes of abuse,” she said.

The CHR has extended its condolences to the bereaved family members and loved ones of the victims. (PNA)
