BUTUAN CITY – At least 165 dengue cases were reported in the province of Dinagat Islands since January this year, the provincial health office said Monday.

In a statement, the Dinagat Provincial Health Office (PHO) said the number is 49 percent higher compared to the 81 cases during the same period last year.

Most of the infections are recorded in the town of Tubajon with 46 cases affecting seven villages, and in San Jose with 39 cases in 11 of its barangays.

A high number of dengue cases were also recorded in the towns of Cagdianao with 25; Basilisa, 21; Libjo, 16; and Dinagat, 12.

PHO reminded residents not to be complacent amidst the spike of dengue infections in the province by always keeping their surroundings clean to avoid becoming breeding sites of the disease-carrying mosquitos.

“Dengue is in the province. When in fever, go immediately to the nearest health center or hospital for a medical checkup,” the agency said.

It added that the testing, admission, and treatment of Dinagat residents who are positive for dengue fever are free in all district hospitals of the province. (PNA)
