ANGELES CITY – The city government here will designate rural health units (RHUs) as vaccination centers for Covid-19 starting on June 21.

The move aims to make the vaccination sites more accessible to residents.

Irish Calaguas, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr.’s chief adviser, said on Monday the mega vaccination site at the City College of Angeles will be closed starting on June 20 and instead, the scheduled vaccination will be done at the designated RHUs every Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Ang hangarin po ni Mayor Lazatin para sa inisyatibong ito ay dalhin ng mas malapit at aaccessible ang bakuna sa mga Angeleños (The desire of Mayor Lazatin for this initiative to bring the vaccination closer and accessible to the Angeleños),” Calaguas said in an interview.

To date, the city has six RHUs.

Dr. Verona Guevarra, city health officer, said residents who are not yet vaccinated with the first dose or not fully vaccinated with the second dose and booster shot must go to the nearest RHU.

“Nais po ng city government na bakunado po ang lahat ng naninirahan sa siyudad. Alam naman po natin na (The city government wants all those residing in the city to be vaccinated. We all know) the sole protection against the virus is vaccine, aside of course, from the observance of the safety protocols,” she said.

Guevarra said they are now administering the second booster shots, following the guidelines released by the Department of Health.

A total of 367,866 residents are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 while 390,451 have received their first dose of vaccines.

Meanwhile, a total of 76,042 got their first booster shot while 40 have so far received their second dose of booster shots.

As of May 29, there are only three active Covid-19 cases in the city. Of the total 14,696 infections, the total number of recoveries is 14,152 while the death tally is 541. (PNA)
