MANILA – President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has named broadcaster Erwin Tulfo as the next secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

In a press briefing on Monday, Press Secretary-designate Trixie Cruz-Angeles said Tulfo, brother of Senator-elect Raffy Tulfo, accepted the offer along with four others to join the incoming Cabinet of the Marcos administration.

Aside from Tulfo, Cruz-Angeles said Christina Frasco, who is the spokesperson of Vice President-elect Sara Duterte, will serve as secretary of the Department of Tourism.

Former Manila Rep. Naida Angping will lead the Presidential Management Staff.

Angping is also part of the transition team of the Marcos' camp.

Marcos also nominated Amenah Pangandaman to lead the Department of Budget and Management, while Ivan John Enrile Uy will head the Department of Information and Communications.

Pangandaman served as DBM assistant secretary, while Uy chaired the Commission on Information and Communications Technology.

The Commission on Elections said nominees of party-list groups that participated in the May 9 polls are not the candidates but the organizations.

Acting Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said party-list nominees are not covered by the one-year ban before they may be appointed to any position.

“The Constitutional proscription states, under Section 6, that no candidate who has lost in any election shall, within one year after such election, be appointed to any office in the government of any government-owned or controlled corporations or in any of its subsidiaries,” Laudiangco said, reacting to Tulfo’s appointment to the DSWD

Tulfo was ACT-CIS party-list’s fourth nominee and chair of the group, which advocates crime prevention. (PNA)
