CEBU CITY – The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) has seen a decline in cases of violence involving women and children (VAWC) as victims, citing effective collaboration to address issues on gender equality and women empowerment.

Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega, PRO-7 regional director, said in a statement released on Tuesday night his office recorded only 629 cases of violence involving women and children from January to May of 2022, as compared to 1,769 for the same period last year.

Data from the Regional Women and Children Protection Desk showed a significant decline of 64.44 percent in the total number of VAWCs.

Vega attributed the decline to consistent community engagements of police units, particularly the Women and Children Protection Desks that are actively engaging stakeholders on gender and development.

“The strict implementation of laws against women and children resulted in fewer cases of abuse of women and children in Central Visayas this year. In collaboration with our local government units and our policewomen at the Women and Children Protection Desks engaged in community development programs to address issues on gender equality and discuss women empowerment, especially in the provinces,” Vega said.

Meanwhile, Vega cited the major police units in Cebu province for achieving a high crime solution rate.

He reported that the regional crime solution efficiency from January to May is posted at 52.82 percent, while crime clearance efficiency at 97.83 percent.

The top-performing police offices in the crime solution efficiency are Cebu City Police Office which topped other major police offices with 78.17 percent, followed by Mandaue City Police Office (2nd) with 70.37 percent, and Cebu Police Provincial Office (3rd) with 55.29 percent.

Siquijor Police Provincial Office, Mandaue City Police Office, and Cebu City Police Office are cited for having highest crime clearance efficiency with 100 percent.

Other top performing major police units are Cebu Police Provincial Office (2nd) with 99.61 percent and Bohol Police Provincial Office (3rd) with 99.09 percent. (PNA)
