LEGAZPI CITY – Police in the Bicol region seized some PHP25.7-million worth of illegal drugs and nabbed 337 drug personalities from January to May this year.

A report from the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) on Thursday showed that three high-value target individuals died in police operations, while confiscated were some 400.623 grams of marijuana and 3,781.271 grams of shabu from a total of 306 operations in five months.

Records from the Regional Operation Division-PRO5 also showed that 218 of the arrested persons were street-level individuals (SLIs) while 119 were high-value individuals (HVIs). Likewise, 361 cases are now filed in court against the suspects.

“We have high hopes to get rid of this problem through this strategy and as the new administration of the government starts its leadership, we shall display the same zeal and fervor to realize our goal for a drug-free community," Brig. Gen Mario Reyes, PRO-5 director in a said statement.

He said PRO-5 shall continue to expand its initiatives in the fight against drugs through its "Kasurog" campaign.

"This shall focus on fortifying police operational approaches and drug education from among the community to make known to them the ill effects of using prohibited drugs not only on their personal lives but its general effect that impedes the nation's growth and development," Reyes added. (PNA)
