MANILA – All government airports in the Bicol region did not suffer any damage from the recent ash emission and phreatic eruption of Mt. Bulusan in Sorsogon, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Monday.

In a statement, CAAP Area V Manager Cynthia Tumanut said the agency remains “vigilant and alert” for incidents resulting from the volcano's activity.

“Operations in our airports with commercial flights have remained unhampered as well," Tumanut said.

These seven airports include Bulan Airport, Sorsogon Airport, Daet Airport, Masbate Airport, Naga Airport, Virac Airport, and Bicol International Airport.

To date, the CAAP has updated its Notice to Airmen to B1507/22 -- prohibiting the entry to the volcano’s four-kilometer permanent danger zone -- after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised its alert on Mt. Bulusan to level 1.

It also prohibited aircraft to operate 10,000 feet from the surface and advised to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as “ash from the sudden phreatic eruption can be hazardous to aircraft.” (PNA)
