BUTUAN CITY – A group of rice farmers in Agusan del Norte’s Jabonga town lauded the government for the turnover of a PHP5.5 million irrigation project, seen to help boost rice production and increase their income.

“This irrigation is a big help to us rice farmers here in Jabonga as this will ensure a steady supply of water in our farms,” Rechie Aguillon,  president of the Camalig Beltran Farmers Irrigators Association (CBFIA), said in a statement Thursday.

Aguillon assured they will manage the irrigation system efficiently.

“I also encourage the members of our association to properly manage and preserve this project,” he said.

A technical description provided by NIA-13 indicated that the irrigation project consisted of dams, canals, and canal structures.

The project, handed over by NIA-13 early this week, is expected to irrigate some 17 hectares of rice farms in Jabonga town.

NIA-13 said similar projects were also turned over to farmers’ groups in Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands. (PNA)
