LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Environment Natural Resources in Bicol (DENR-5) together with volunteers and other stakeholders planted some 6,000 seedlings on Wednesday as part of the celebration of Environment Month.

In a social media post on Thursday, Conservation and Development Division (CDD) Chief Marlene M. Francia expressed her gratitude to all the volunteers.

She said the DENR is happy that many responded to the call to protect our environment. “We only have one planet, so, let us take care of it,” she added.

Together with various stakeholders and partners from the academe, national government agencies, people’s organizations, civil society groups, the DENR regional office together with its line bureaus Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), and all Provincial and Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices, regionwide participated in the activity.

This year’s Environment Month theme, “Aksyon Para Sa Natatanging Mundo” and global slogan #ONLYONEEARTH, calls for a collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore the planet.

Proclamation No. 237 was approved by President Corazon C. Aquino on April 4, 1988, declaring the month of June every year as Philippine Environment Month to give time and effort towards the protection, enhancement, and development of the country’s natural resources. (PNA)
