LEGAZPI CITY – The newly-restored capitol building of Sorsogon province is now patronized by both locals and visitors, and becoming an attraction for its state-of-the-art facilities.
It is also gaining popularity as it is considered a landmark of Sorsogon City.
The Department of Public Works and Highways in Bicol (DPWH-5) recently completed the renovation of the 105-year-old building with a PHP99-million allocation, which allowed it to be brought back to its original neo-classic design.
DPWH-5 Director Virgilio Eduarte, in his report to DPWH Secretary Roger Mercado, said the renovated Sorsogon Provincial Capitol is a one-stop building that houses all provincial department offices.
“The Provincial Capitol is open 24 hours so that people can visit and walk through the hallways to witness and appreciate the architectural works and paintings done by local and regional artists,” Eduarte said in a statement on Friday.
Works that were done include waterproofing on the roof deck and other areas, and the installation of an elevator to make the building persons with disabilities (PWD)-friendly.
The DPWH-Sorsogon 1st District Engineering Office completed the restoration project in coordination with the local government. (PNA)
