MANILA – The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) has affirmed the wage order granting pay hikes for domestic workers or house helps in Caraga.

In a statement on Saturday, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)-XIII added PHP500 and PHP1,000 to the salary of kasambahay in the region.

With the approved Wage Order No. RXIII-DW-03, the new monthly wage rate for domestic workers is PHP4,000.

Around 32,867 domestic workers in the region are expected to benefit from the minimum wage increase which will take effect after 15 days from publication in a newspaper of general circulation in the region.

On the other hand, Bello said the pay hike for minimum wage earners in Caraga already took effect on June 6.

RTWPB XIII issued Wage Order No. RXIII-17 on May 17, which integrated the PHP15.00 COLA (cost of living allowance) to the PHP305.00 basic salary under the previous Wage Order, and granted a PHP30.00 wage increase bringing the new daily minimum wage rate in the region to PHP350.

The DOLE said the new daily minimum wage covered private establishments and their workers in Butuan City and the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and Surigao del Sur.

For private establishments and their workers in the provinces of Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte, including the Siargao Islands, the wage increase of PHP20.00 and another PHP10.00 shall take effect on September 1, 2022. (PNA)
