GENERAL SANTOS CITY – This city has recorded lower dengue cases for the first six months of this year compared to the same period in 2021, the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) said Monday.
The report showed a total of 218 dengue cases in the city with seven deaths from January 1 to June 3 this year. The number is 73 percent lower than that of the same period last year with 794 cases and eight deaths.
“Currently, the village of Labangal posted the most number of cases with 40,” Mary Rose Ann Aloot, CESU education and campaign program, said.
Labangal is followed by Lagao with 26; Calumpang, 25; San Isidro, 23; Fatima, 11; Tambler; Apopong and Bula with 10 each; while Katangawan and City Heights recorded nine cases each.
Aloot warned dengue cases are expected to rise further during the rainy season.
“We have been continually working with the barangays to sustain the prevention and control initiatives against dengue through the Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue or Dengue Task Force,” she said.
She urged residents to keep up with the practice of the 4S strategy and the “4 o'clock habit” or daily cleanup activities at 4 p.m., especially at the household level.
The city government has made dengue testing available in the rural health units as part of its expanded surveillance against the disease. (PNA)
