MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is looking to resume the voter registration next month as part of the preparation for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on Dec. 5, 2022.

In a statement, acting Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said the proposal is to hold the voter registration from July 4 to 30.

He said the resumption of voter registration is “subject to the approval of the Commission en banc.”

Laudiangco said all administrative and operational preparations for the December BSKE have begun, upon the direction of the Commission en banc, with Commissioner Rey Bulay as the Commissioner-in-Charge.

The other activities included the drafting of implementing resolutions, procurement of ballot paper and other election supplies, procurement of printing services for the official ballots, accountable and non-accountable forms and revisiting/re-studying of health protocols, including the continuation of the provision of isolation polling places in coordination with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

The Comelec said the projected total number of registered voters for barangay elections is 66,053,357 while the expected registered voters for SK polls is 23,059,227.

“Please note that these are mere projections based on historical data for purposes of planning and procurement for the BSK,” Laudiangco said. (PNA)
