CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Police Regional Office-10 (PRO-10) said Wednesday it is investigating the motives and the identities of the assailants who killed a police investigator in Iligan City.

Lt. Col. Michelle Olaivar, PRO-10 spokesperson, said preliminary investigation has been conducted in Tuesday's killing of Senior M/Sgt. Ruel L. Vacal, who died of three gunshot wounds.

“We spoke (with the investigators) last night, and as of the moment the identity of the suspects were negative as well as the motive,” Olaivar said in an interview Wednesday.

The Iligan City Police Office said it has started gathering leads from Vacal's close relatives and acquaintances.

An initial report submitted by Maj. Rorye Tabuclin, officer-in-charge of ICPO Station 4 where Vacal was assigned, said the police officer was walking in Barangay Tubod when two unidentified assailants aboard a motorcycle stopped near him and shot him three times in the abdomen area.

Vacal was rushed to a hospital but was declared “dead on arrival.”

Col. Dominador Estrada, ICPO chief, condemned the killing and assured of thorough investigation. (PNA)
