MANILA – Private sector workers in all 16 regions of the country will have their salaries hiked following the issuance of orders by their respective regional wage boards which would all take effect this June, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Wednesday.
In a news release, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the wage orders that will be effective before the end of June are in Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Calabarzon, and Caraga.
The PHP35 wage hike in the Zamboanga Peninsula will take effect on June 25 while the PHP50 pay hike in Eastern Visayas will take effect on June 27.
Starting June 30, wage hikes will also take effect in Calabarzon and Caraga, where the monthly minimum wage will be PHP4,000.
The new minimum wage rates in Eastern Visayas will be PHP345 to PHP375 and PHP338 to PHP351 in the Zamboanga Peninsula and the minimum wage of PHP350 to PHP470 for Calabarzon.
Meanwhile, the new minimum wage of PHP533-PHP570 in the National Capital Region (NCR) took effect on June 4, followed by Western Visayas, where the minimum wage of PHP410 to PHP450 took effect on June 5, and the Ilocos and Caraga Regions where the minimum wage of PHP372 to PHP400 and PHP350, respectively, took effect on June 6.
The other regions where workers were granted a higher minimum wage are Cagayan Valley (PHP400 to PHP420) effective June 8; Soccsksargen (PHP347 to PHP368) effective June 9; Mimaropa (PHP329 to PHP355) effective June 10; and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with PHP400 and Central Visayas (PHP382 to PHP435) effective June 14.
Pay hikes were also granted in Bicol Region and Northern Mindanao, with the new minimum wage of PHP365 and PHP378 to PHP405, respectively, effective June 18; Davao Region, (PHP438 to PHP443) effective June 19; and Central Luzon (PHP344 to PHP460) starting June 20.
Meanwhile, domestic workers (kasambahay) in 13 regions are also set to benefit from higher wages this month.
The new monthly minimum wage of PHP4,500 in Western Visayas took effect on June 5; followed by the Ilocos Region, where the PHP5,000 minimum wage took effect on June 6; in Cagayan Valley, where the new minimum wage of PHP5,000 took effect on June 8; and Mimaropa, where the PHP4,500 new minimum wage took effect on June 10.
In CAR and Central Visayas, the minimum wage of PHP4,500 and PHP4,500 to PHP5,500, respectively, both took effect on June 14, while the minimum wage of PHP4,000 in the Bicol Region and PHP3,500 to PHP4,500 in Northern Mindanao will begin on June 18.
Also include in the pay hikes are Central Luzon and Davao Region, where the monthly minimum wage for domestic workers will be PHP4,500-PHP5,000 and PHP4,500, respectively, effective June 20; the Zamboanga Peninsula, where the monthly minimum wage will be PHP3,500-PHP4,000 starting June 25; and Eastern Visayas, where the monthly minimum wage will be PHP4,500-PHP5,000 starting June 27.
The wage boards in the NCR, Calabarzon, and Soccsksargen, however, are yet to issue their respective wage orders for domestic workers as they are still conducting public hearings. (PR)
