MANILA – Operators and drivers of public utility vehicles (PUVs) may receive the second tranche of the government’s fuel subsidy program by early July, an official of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said on Wednesday.

In a Viber message to reporters, LTFRB Executive Director Maria Kristina Cassion said the documentary requirements for the release of funds for the second tranche are being prepared.

“We’re targeting early July. However, it would also depend on how fast the DBM (Department of Budget and Management) can download the funds to us,” Cassion said.

She noted that beneficiaries may receive the fuel subsidy “much faster” for the second tranche as their cards would have been produced by the Landbank of the Philippines (LBP).

“Crediting to the account of the beneficiaries will be through the top-up method,” she said.

As of Tuesday, the LTFRB has so far disbursed the first tranche of the government’s fuel subsidy program -- amounting to PHP6,500 -- to a total of 264,578 beneficiaries.

The remaining 31,992 beneficiaries, it said, will receive their cash disbursement from the LBP on Friday.

For beneficiaries under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), a total of 16,992 have received their disbursement, 5,525 are expected to receive their disbursement by Friday, while 5,260 have been rejected by the LBP system and returned to the DTI due to an invalid GCash or Paymaya account.

On the other hand, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said a total of 617,806 drivers and operators of tricycles will receive a disbursement under the fuel subsidy program.

With an allocation of PHP625 million, each tricycle beneficiary with a DTI certification will receive PHP1,000. (PNA)
