MANILA – The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) is on track to serve around 10 million passengers in June, the third and final month of its ‘libreng sakay (free ride)’ program.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, the MRT-3 has so far provided 5,192,905 free rides from June 1 to 15 -- compared to 8,472,639 ridership from March 28 to April 30 and 9,597,784 from May 1 to 31.

This after the MRT-3 logged multiple highest single-day ridership in June, with the highest so far recorded on June 10 at 381,814 passengers.

“Ito ang pinakamataas na bilang ng mga pasahero na sumakay ng MRT-3 mula nang magbalik operasyon ang linya noong Hunyo 2020 (This is the highest number of passengers who have taken a ride at the MRT-3 since it returned to operation in June 2020),” the MRT-3 said.

To date, the MRT-3 has given 23,263,336 free rides to the public since the program began in March.

The program -- launched by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade in March -- began as a way to showcase the recent completion of the MRT-3’s ‘massive rehabilitation’ and to ease the effects of rising prices of fuel and other goods on the public.

Nasa ikatlong kasunod buwan na ngayon ang programang libreng sakay, na magtatagal hanggang ika-30 ng Hunyo, 2022, sa buong oras ng operasyon ng linya mula ika-4:40 ng umaga hanggang ika-10:10 ng gabi (The free ride program is in its third month and will last until June 30, 2022 and is available at all operational hours, from 4:40 a.m. to 10:10 p.m.),” the MRT-3 said.
