BUTUAN CITY – The Dinagat Islands town of San Jose on Friday reported 59 dengue cases as of June 12.

The local government unit (LGU) said the number is higher by 22 as compared to the 37 dengue cases logged in their area on May 22 this year.

In an advisory, the San Jose LGU noted that most of the dengue cases were recorded in Barangays Justiniana Edera with 10; Don Ruben, 8; and seven cases each in Aurelio and San Juan.

The LGU has already intensified its information drive on dengue to prevent a further increase in the number of cases.

“Among the first symptoms of dengue is the sudden high fever with a severe headache at the back of the eyes,” it said.

Other symptoms include muscle and joint pains, vomiting, fatigue, and the development of skin rashes.

“These symptoms are observed within the period of five to eight days,” the LGU said, as it urged residents with symptoms to immediately go to the nearest health facilities for consultation.

It also called on residents to join in the cleanup drives to get rid of mosquitos that carry the dengue virus.

“Let us use mosquito nets and insect lamps. If possible, put a screen in our windows and doors,” the LGU said.

In the community, especially in schools, the town government urged parents to use mosquito repellents for the arms and legs, and put socks in their children's feet.

The LGU also instructed the kids not to get near canals and areas with stagnant waters. (PNA)
