LEGAZPI CITY – The Securities and Exchange Commission in Bicol (SEC-5) alerted the public on Friday against a group of persons representing themselves as members, of or connected to the Universal Tribes International Corporation (UTIC).
Glorei Allelu Lindio, SEC-Legazpi Extension Office spokesperson, in a statement on Friday, said the warning was issued after their office received information that a group of people is inviting the public in various barangays here to join the association with a promise of future assistance or benefits.
Lindio said as per SEC records, the UTIC is a registered non-stock corporation with an office located at R-5 C Village A, Pook U.P. Campus in Quezon City.
Allegedly, the group claiming to represent UTIC is recruiting individuals to join the company by paying a membership fee of PHP150 and promising PHP10,000 cash and PHP10,000 worth of goods plus an additional PHP1,000 for every young child in the household.
The group reportedly said members will receive the benefits after the assumption to office of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.
"While the report received by SEC-Legazpi pertains only to recruitment activities allegedly happening in Legazpi City, we are not discounting the possibility that similar illegal and unauthorized activities, whether perpetrated by the same or different groups, may also be happening in other areas and other provinces in the region," the statement said.
SEC-5 added that the public is reminded to verify with their local government officials or any concerned government offices, including SEC, the legitimacy of any unauthorized recruitment activities promising various benefits, including those using the name of public figures. (PNA)
