PH detects 32 more cases of Omicron BA.5 subvariant

MANILA – The country detected 32 additional cases of Omicron BA.5 subvariant, a health official said Wednesday.

Of the total cases, 21 are from Western Visayas, four from Calabarzon, four from the National Capital Region and three from Central Luzon.

"Sa mga kaso sa Western Visayas, siyam ay sa workplace cluster at tatlo naman sa household cluster (Among the cases in Western Visayas, nine are from the workplace cluster and three from household cluster)," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an online media forum.

Thirty of the new cases are fully vaccinated and one is partially vaccinated.

The vaccination status of the remaining case is being verified.

The travel histories and close contacts of all the cases are also being verified.

As for the Covid-19 symptoms, five of them were asymptomatic while 22 had mild symptoms.

Meantime, the symptoms of the remaining five cases are being verified.

"Sixteen individuals are now tagged as recovered, 14 are currently in isolation, while the quarantine status of the remaining two is still being verified," Vergeire said.

Based on the latest sequencing run, the country has logged 43 cases of Omicron BA.5 subvariant.

No additional cases of Omicron BA.2.12.1 subvariant were detected. (PNA)
