MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Saturday reported that it stopped the entry of PHP124 million worth of misdeclared agricultural products last week.

The BOC said in a statement that the shipments of frozen poultry products came from China and were consigned to Daniry Consumer Goods Trading (PHP75 million) and Jeroce Consumer Goods Trading (PHP49 million).

Daniry declared the shipment as hotpot (soup usually containing seafood and pork meat) balls while Jeroce declared steamed buns.

“Derogatory information received by Intelligence Group and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) that above-mentioned shipments were suspected to contain misdeclared agricultural products,” CIIS Director Jeoffrey Tacio said in a statement.

CIIS-Manila International Container Port requested for 100 percent examination of the shipments.

Customs intelligence agents have witnessed the 10 percent examination of the shipment for Daniry Consumer Goods Trading on June 23 and found frozen whole duck, chicken thigh, and duck upper leg.

The shipment for Jeroce also contained frozen chicken and pork products as per its 100 percent examination on June 21.

MICP has already issued Warrant of Seizure and Detention orders and will file anti-smuggling cases in violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and other related laws and regulations. (PNA)
