CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Fourteen out of the 80 barangays here have been cleared of illegal drugs, the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) said Monday.

Maj. Evan Viñas, COCPO spokesperson, said the assessment was based on the consolidated data by the police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Northern Mindanao (PDEA-10) for the first half of this year.

Viñas said the local government is also initiating more social interventions among former drug users who want to reform.

“In every clearing operation of barangays, each of them has a list. We have noticed that each barangay has an average of 10 (individuals) who volunteered to go to rehabilitation,” he said.

Viñas urged those under the PDEA list to avail the Community Based Rehabilitation Programs (CBRP) in every barangay, saying this has “significantly helped the reduction of drug cases in the community.”

Last week, the city marked the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking highlighted by former drug users sharing their journey to recovery. (PNA)
