CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – A PHP37.97-million skateboarding park will be built in Baler, Aurora as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the potential of the youth in sports and boost the local tourism and economy.

Through the Aurora District Engineering Office, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will build the sports facility on a 6,561.10-square-meter property and will have amenities, such as a spacious parking area, administrative office, view deck, well-lighted skate park, new 400-seating capacity grandstand, and a common park

District engineer Roderick Andal said on Monday the facility can be used for major sporting events in the province which is one of the country’s premier tourist destinations, especially during the summer season.

“This outdoor park is designed not only for the enjoyment of local skateboard enthusiasts but it can also be used as a venue for national skateboarding competitions. It features skating obstacles for beginners, intermediate and professional skateboarders, and will be equipped with CCTVs (closed-circuit television), sound systems, water supply, standby power supply, athlete lockers, and public toilets for the convenience of our athletes and park visitors,” Andal said in a social media post.

He cited the importance of modern sports facilities for the training and development of Aurora-based athletes and for the promotion of an active and healthy lifestyle by providing residents with amenities that are accessible and safe to use.

“We recognize the importance of strengthening the potential of our youth in sports by constructing facilities that will definitely help improve their skills. We also believe that (the) sports facility, when completed, will boost the spirit of our aspiring athletes and many more people will be attracted to play sports,” he added. (PNA)
