PH detects 63 more cases of 3 Omicron subvariants

MANILA – The country has detected 63 additional cases of three Omicron subvariants -- 50 BA.5, 11 BA.2.12.1 and two BA.4.
Of the total BA.5 tally, 38 cases were from Western Visayas, five from the National Capital Region, and seven were returning overseas Filipinos.

"Isang indibidwal ay fully vaccinated, isa ay unvaccinated, habang kasalukuyang bine-verify pa namin ang status ng bakuna ng natitirang apa't napong walo (One individual is fully vaccinated, one is unvaccinated, while the vaccination statuses of the remaining 48 individuals are still being verified," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said Tuesday.

The Department of Health is still verifying the exposure and travel history of each of the individuals.

One case presented mild symptoms and the symptoms of the remaining 49 are being verified.

Currently, 41 of the cases are tagged as recovered, four are still undergoing isolation while the outcomes of the remaining 45 are still being verified.

"Based on our latest sequencing run, overall, there are 93 cases of BA.5 detected in our country so far," Vergeire said.

For the additional BA.2.12.1 cases, seven were from Western Visayas and four were returning overseas Filipinos.

The DOH is still verifying their vaccination status, signs and symptoms, exposures and travel histories.

Ten out of the eleven cases are tagged as recovered and one is still undergoing isolation.

For the additional BA.4 cases, one was from Western Visayas and one was a returning overseas Filipino.

Their exposure and travel histories are still unknown.

One case is fully vaccinated while the vaccination status of the other one is still being verified.

Moreover, one presented mild symptoms while the symptoms of the other case are still being verified.

Both cases are now tagged as recovered.

To date, the country has logged a total of 43 BA.2.12.1 cases and three BA.4 cases. (PNA)
