BAGUIO CITY – Police operatives from the Cordillera Administrative Region destroyed PHP62.3 million worth of marijuana in different plantation sites in Benguet and Kalinga provinces.

“Patuloy ang ginagawa natin na eradication para patuloy na mapigilan ang pagdadala ng marijuana sa urban areas (We continue to do eradication operations to prevent the illegal drugs from being brought to the urban areas),” Capt. Marnie Abellanida, Police Regional Office-Cordillera information officer, said in a phone interview on Tuesday.

He assured the public that the anti-illegal drugs effort of the police will continue even after the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Kasama sa trabaho natin yan kasi ang illegal drugs may kadugtong na criminal activity (this is part of our mandate because illegal drugs come with the possible commission of crimes),” Abellanida said.

He said police officers in Kalinga, joined by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, uprooted 310,000 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants with a standard drug price of PHP62 million in 26 different plantation sites in Barangays Buscalan, Butbut, and Loccong, all in Tinglayan town, Kalinga.

The police operation in Kalinga lasted for three days from June 24 to 26.

Abellanida said the simultaneous operations led to the destruction of 80 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants with a standard drug price of PHP16,000 and three kilograms of dried marijuana stalks worth PHP360,000 in two plantations in Barangay Badeo, Kibungan, Benguet,

All marijuana plants and dried stalks were destroyed on-site.

No cultivator was apprehended during the operations. (PNA)
