MANILA – The Manila Police District announced on Wednesday it will conduct law enforcement checkpoints within the city limits for the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday at the National Museum.

Maj. Philipp Ines, MPD spokesperson, identified 13 border checkpoints in the following areas: In Barangay 101 along Mel Lopez Blvd., H. Lopez Blvd., and Juan Luna St. in Tondo; Blumentritt near corner Dimasalang St. in Sta. Cruz; España Blvd. corner Blumentritt Extension, Ramon Magsaysay Blvd. corner Altura Street in Sampaloc; New Panaderos St. city limit in front of McDonalds; Rizal Ave. corner R. Papa St.; Lubiran Bridge in Lubiran St. in Bacood; Pinaglabanan Bridge that connects San Juan and Manila; Roxas Blvd. near corner P. Ocampo St., Taft Ave. corner P. Ocampo in Malate; and 2nd St. in  Barangay 649 Baseco Compound in Port Area.

Starting last Sunday, the MPD started conducting random checkpoints in various streets and areas around Manila.

Meanwhile, Ines assured that the MPD is now ready for the “big event”.

All systems go na po tayo, tuluy-tuloy na yung ating ginagawa para walang puwang sa gagawin nating paglalatag ng seguridad. Sa MPD kulang-kulang nasa 5,000 MPD personnel ang ilalatag natin (We are all systems go and we are continuously checking to make sure all security measures are in place. In MPD, we will deploy about 5,000 personnel for the event),” he said.

Ines also reminded those who will attend the inauguration that jackets are not allowed to be worn on the day, and make sure to bring with them transparent bags or backpacks.

Balloons will also not be allowed in the venue.

Kasama sa listahan na bawal magdala ng lobo, baka mag create ito ng takot kung sakaling aksidenteng pumutok. Kailangan pag pumunta magsuot ng face mask, kung magdadala ng bag o backpack dapat see through, bawal din magdala ng mga bagay na matutulis (Bringing of balloons are not allowed as it may create fear in case it accidentally pops. Please wear a face mask. If you need to bring bags or backpacks, it should be transparent, pointed objects are also not allowed),” he said.

Ines also reiterated their call for demonstrators planning to hold protest rallies on the inauguration day to cancel their activities as the Manila local government unit (LGU) is implementing a “no permit, no rally” ordinance.

He said those who will insist to hold demonstrations and protests may only do so in the city’s designated freedom parks that include Liwasang Bonifacio, Plaza Miranda, Plaza Moriones, and Plaza Dilao, as long as they do not violate any law and ordinances.

Protesters are also warned that burning of effigies, obstruction of traffic flow, and destroying government and private equipment may be reasons for their arrest.  (PNA)
