DAVAO CITY – The Department of Health in Davao Region (DOH-11) acknowledged Wednesday various local government units (LGUs) in the region for “exceptional efforts” in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) management as well as vaccination implementation.

DOH-11 Director Dr. Annabelle Yumang said the recognized areas for best Covid-19 management efforts included Caraga town in Davao Oriental (Best Pediatric and A2 Senior Citizen Vaccination); Tarragona, Davao Oriental (Best A3 Individuals with Comorbidities Vaccination); and Mati City, Davao Oriental (Best Last Mile Implementation).

Also, Padada town in Davao del Sur was cited as the Best in Strategic Implementation; the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte for Best Vaccine Handling; and Davao City as the Most Innovative and Highest Eligible Population Fully Vaccinated.

For provinces, Davao Occidental was cited as Most Consistent; Davao del Sur - Most Resilient; Davao Oriental - Most Excellent in Multisectoral Collaboration; Davao del Norte - Best in Logistics Management; and Davao de Oro - Best in Delivery Strategies on hard to reach areas.

Yumang said the gains in the fight against Covid-19 can be attributed to the unity among local government units and community partners in the public and private sectors.

“The fight against Covid-19 is not on DOH alone. Partners and people on the ground are also instrumental to it,” the DOH-11 director said in a Facebook post Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Mati City Health Office (CHO) said that as of June 28, the locality has already reached 89.6 percent of its target population for vaccination against Covid-19.

Mati was earlier recognized for its outstanding implementation of the “last mile” phase of its vaccination campaign from March to May  this year

Mati City has the highest ratio of vaccinated population in the Davao Region and has contributed greatly to the placing of the entire province of Davao Oriental under Alert Level 1. (PNA)
