ZAMBOANGA CITY – At least 2,775 dengue cases with 20 deaths have been recorded here since January this year, the City Health Office (CHO) reported Tuesday.
The CHO said the figure is 1,775 percent higher compared to the January to June dengue cases in 2021, and 179 percent higher than the five-year average of 993 cases also for the same period.
Data showed that 51 percent of the total dengue cases were males, while 52 percent belonged to the zero to nine age group, and 31 percent came from the 10 to 19 age bracket, it said in a statement.
At least 12 cases were classified as severe dengue, six as dengue with warning signs, and two as dengue with no warning signs.
The CHO said its surveillance activities will continue as part of the measures being undertaken to stem the rising dengue cases here.
It urged residents to religiously follow the “4S” strategy against dengue which involves measures to search and destroy breeding sites, particularly stagnant waters; seek early consultation; self-protection; and say ‘yes’ to fogging in areas where cases are high.
Communities are also encouraged to report dengue cases to their barangay officials, who are tasked to coordinate with the CHO for the implementation of preventive and containment measures. (PNA)
