MANILA – Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has clarified that giving PHP10,000 cash aid to every family is just a legislative proposal and would be one of the priority bills that he would immediately file in the 19th Congress.

He explained that it is different from the privately funded “Sampung Libong Pag-asa” (Ten Thousand Hopes) program, which distributed PHP10,000 cash to select beneficiaries and showcased a key part of his economic recovery plan to help families purchase their basic needs.

"Sa mga namba-bash sa 10K ayuda (aid), kung kaya ko lang silang bigyan ng tig-sasampung libo, binigay ko na sa kanila. Pero sa katotohanan ito’y isang legislative proposal (To the bashers of 10K subsidy, if only I can provide them with PHP10,000 each, I would give it to them. But the fact is this is still a legislative proporal,” he said during the oath-taking ceremony of Taguig City officials on Thursday, including his wife, Mayor Lani Cayetano

“So ang hinihingi ko po doon sa mga tumutuligsa sa programang Sampung Libong Pag-asa (So, to those who are criticizing the Ten Thousand Hopes program) during the pandemic, tumulong na lang kayo (just help),” he added.

During the 18th Congress, the Cayetano couple filed House Bill No. 8597 or the "10K Ayuda" bill, a financial aid program that will distribute PHP10,000 to every Filipino family or PHP1,500 per family member.

Congress failed to pass the measure that sought inclusion in the Bayanihan 3 Covid-19 aid package or the PHP5-trillion 2022 budget.

Cayetano was previously Taguig-Pateros representative while Mayor Cayetano was Taguig Second District representative. (PNA)
