DUMAGUETE CITY – Negros Oriental Governor Pryde Henry Teves has given department heads one month to prove their worth before reshuffling and making appointments at the provincial capitol.

Teves reported for work at the Office of the Governor at the Capitol on Friday after he took his oath of office on Thursday.

Provincial legal officer Ronel Depalubos said Teves was oriented and he lined up activities in the coming weeks.

“The governor told the department heads in a meeting Thursday afternoon that there will be no reshuffling or appointments yet as they are given one month to show that they are worth the position that they currently hold,” Depalubos told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in mixed English and Cebuano.

Other activities set for next week include the Monday morning flag-raising ceremony with Capitol officials and employees, where the governor is expected to speak and a meeting with members of the Provincial Development Council (PDC) on Wednesday.

The new governor is expected to review and discuss during the PDC meeting the province’s Annual Investment Program (AIP) as he wants to make amendments to it.

Some of Teves’ orders include the recall of all provincial government-owned vehicles for inventory; the suspension of all quarry operations in the province; and the return of employees who are on floating status or transferred to another department to their original assignments.

Degamo steps down

Meanwhile, former Gov. Roel Degamo late Thursday afternoon stepped down from office following hours of the standoff as he refused to vacate his post.

After negotiations, Degamo eventually conceded and exited under heavy security to ensure his safety.

Degamo and Teves are locked in a controversy involving the results in the May 9 elections, where the former governor lost to the latter.

Degamo claimed that the votes that went to his namesake “nuisance” gubernatorial candidate should be credited to him.

The disqualification case filed against the nuisance candidate, Ruel Degamo (Grego Gaudia Degamo), is now pending resolution at the Comelec en banc. (PNA)
