MALASIQUI, Pangasinan –The Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) prohibited fishermen from setting sail as the gale warning was raised on Friday dawn.
In a phone interview, PDRRMO emergency operations center manager Shallom Balolong said the wind pressure in the open sea varies from 45 to 63 kilometers per hour (km/h) while the waves could reach up to 4.5 meters from 2.8 meters in height.
“This is due to Tropical Depression Caloy. Although it already exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility, it still enhances the southwest monsoon (habagat), and its proximity to the West Philippine Sea affects the ocean,” he said.
“We coordinated with the local government units and the barangays to monitor their constituents, especially in the coastal areas to prevent them from going out to sea with the gale warning in place,” he added.
Tropical Storm Domeng does not have a direct impact yet on the province except that it also enhances the southwest monsoon and will bring rain, Balolong said.
The PDRRMO is monitoring the weather condition in the province although it is still in white alert status while some of the members of the water search and rescue team are on duty.
As of 11 a.m. Friday, "Domeng" was situated at 940 kilometers west of extreme Northern Luzon with
maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h.
It is moving northward at 15 km/h. (PNA)
