MANILA – The regional wage boards of Calabarzon and Soccsksargen have joined the rest of the country's 16 regions in approving a salary hike for household workers (kasambahay).

In a statement on Tuesday, the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) said the wage orders issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) of the two regions over the measure were published on June 30.

Under the RTWPB Calabarzon's Wage Order No. RB-IVA-DW-03, domestic workers in the region's growth corridor area, which covers cities and first-class municipalities, will get a PHP1,500 wage hike.

This sets the minimum wage of domestic workers in these areas at PHP5,000.

Meanwhile, an additional PHP1,000 pay increase was granted to the region's emerging growth and resource-based areas (other municipalities), bringing the new monthly rate for domestic workers in these areas to PHP4,000.

Meanwhile, domestic workers in Soccsksargen will receive a PHP500 salary hike.

The wage adjustment would bring the new monthly minimum wage to PHP4,500 in cities and first-class municipalities, and PHP4,000 in other municipalities.

The two wage orders will take effect on July 16. (PNA)
