DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao – Police here neutralized two suspected robbers during a shootout in Barangay Awang Tuesday night.

Lt. Col. Erwin Tabora, municipal police chief, identified the fatalities as Jonathan Solaiman and Miguel Villador, both of Barangay Labungan, also of this town.

Tabora said police who were manning a checkpoint flagged down the two who were riding a motorbike at about 10 p.m.

“However, they sped away and police chased them until Barangay Crossing Awang.  Instead of pulling over, the two traded shots with the police,” he said.

Tabora said the two were linked to a series of street robberies that victimized civilians at the viewing deck of a lovers’ lane in Barangay Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat.

An hour earlier, he said, civilians in the area complained about being robbed by two persons, prompting the police to put up checkpoints.

Seized from the slain suspects were two handguns and identification cards. (PNA)
