MANILA – The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has received the highest audit rating from the Commission on Audit (COA) for 2021 and resolved 100 percent of the complaints made to the 8888 Citizens’ Complaint Center.

MARINA said it resolved 100 percent of the complaints in April and May -- with 87 addressed within May alone.

“[This signifies] the Agency's commitment of transparency, and accountability, as it ensures that all concerns lodged via the OP's (Office of the President) 8888 Citizens' Complaint Center were addressed on time,” it said.

The agency also received an unqualified opinion from the Commission on Audit for 2021 -- showing that MARINA “fairly” presented its financial statements and conformed to public sector accounting standards.

“The financial statements, audited by the COA, comprised MARINA's statement of financial positions as of 31 December 2021; statement of financial performance; statement of changes in net assets/equity; statement of cash flows; statement of comparison of budget and actual amounts for the year then ended; and notes of financial statements,” it said.

Based on the COA report, MARINA's Maritime Industry Promotion, and Development Program has accomplished a total of 120.47 percent or a 20.47 percent increase from the targeted number of the operating merchant fleet.

It also highlighted how MARINA's Maritime Industry Regulatory and Supervision Program accomplished 245 percent of its goal, or 145 percent higher than the targeted number of seafarers certified as meeting international standards. (PNA)
