MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Friday reported the seizure of five containers of smuggled agricultural products worth PHP15 million at Mindanao International Container Terminal Services Inc. (MICTSI) yard in Misamis Oriental.
In a statement, the bureau said the shipments declared as “autolyzed yeast in powder form” were found to contain red onions, white onions, and carrots.
The agricultural products were discovered after authorities did a physical examination inside the yard at the PHIVIDEC Compound in Tagoloan town on Wednesday.
The shipments were consigned to Primex Export and Import Producer which arrived from China on July 2.
District Collector Elvira Cruz issued a Pre-Lodgement Control Orders (PLCOs) against the shipments through the request of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Cagayan de Oro (CIIS-CDO) Field Station upon receipt of derogatory information from the Intelligence Division-Intelligence Group on July 4.
Contrary to its declaration, the shipments were found to contain agricultural products which is a clear violation of Republic Act 10863 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act for misdeclaration of goods.
The seizure was a result of the joint efforts of the Port of Cagayan de Oro and the Intelligence Group. (PNA)
