CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The provinces of Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte joined Muslims worldwide in celebrating Eid'l Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, on Saturday.
Starting with the morning prayers, residents in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur gathered in mosques and the provincial capitol to begin the gathering of families and distribution of food for the less fortunate and religious leaders.

Lanao del Norte Governor Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo said in a statement that the Feast of Sacrifice and the unwavering belief in Allah will "always keep you unified through affection, warmth, and mutual support."
Eid'l Adha is one of the two major holidays in Islam. The other is Eid'l Fitr or the end of the 30-day fasting.
Eid'l Adha is celebrated in commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim's (Abraham) faith in Allah with the test to sacrifice his son, Ismael, based on the story found in the holy book, Qur'an.
Mayor Allan Lao of Lumbatan, Lanao del Sur, said the religious festival teaches the values of sacrifice, obedience, and devotion to Allah.
"As we celebrate this important day, may we all be reminded that every trial, hardship, or failure that we experienced or are about to experience is a test from Allah, a test of our devotion and willingness to obey His commands," he said. (PNA)
