CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Ten amateur boxers here are expected to show their mettle in the ring as they prepare to represent the city in the Palarong Pambansa Visayas-Mindanao Boxing tournament from July 12 to 15 in Cebu City.

Head trainer and coach Elmer Pamisa, in a radio interview Monday, said he is confident local boxers will exceed expectations in every match, attributing it to the stringent training they have undergone.

"Since 2011 we have been champion (in various regional and national boxing matches), and we have made a name for the city. Cebu (athletes) can be a tough one since they are the host, but I can see to our athletes that they are ready," he said.

Pamisa is confident the young boxers under his tutelage will follow the footsteps of Olympic silver medalist Carlo Paalam, whom he trained since seven years old.

Some contenders representing the city have small victories in their belts from previous tournaments.
